What is the ideal size for eyedrops?

Several studies indicate that 7-10 microliters is the optimal drop size for the average human eye. Traditional eyedrop bottles often dispense more than 50 microliters per drop. The Nanodropper adaptor adjusts the drop size to fall within the ideal 10-microliter range, ensuring more precise and efficient medication delivery.

Why are smaller eyedrops considered safer?

Smaller eyedrops are more beneficial because the eye has a limited capacity to retain liquid. When this capacity is exceeded, the excess either spills over or is quickly blinked away. Larger drops result in more medication being absorbed into the bloodstream rather than just the eye, leading to potential "systemic side effects" as if the drug were injected. Studies suggest that smaller drops, by minimizing this overflow, are safer and ensure more precise treatment directly to the eye.

Can I use one Nanodropper for two medications?

Each Nanodropper adaptor is designed as a sterile medical device specifically for one medication bottle. To avoid any risk of contamination, infection, or injury, we strongly advise using one Nanodropper per medication bottle.

Can I reuse or clean the Nanodropper adaptor?

The Nanodropper adaptor is designed as a sterile medical device and should not be removed from the medication bottle once installed. Please use one adaptor per medication bottle and discarding it at the end of the bottle's lifespan. Home sterilization methods have not been studied for the adaptor and may lead to contamination, infection, or injury. Please refrain from attempting to clean or reuse any parts of the Nanodropper adaptor.

When should I discard my bottle of eyedrops?

It's best to strictly adhere to your medication's included guidelines and consult with your eye doctor for personalized advice. Generally, bottles containing preservatives are considered safe to use up to their printed expiration date, provided you follow the manufacturer's storage instructions. Always ensure proper handling to maintain the medication’s efficacy and safety.

What should I do if my tip is clogged or I experience medication dribble when using my drops?

If fluid gets trapped between the original bottle tip and the Nanodropper tip, it can cause two types of problems:

  1. With certain types of medications, this trapped fluid can clog the tip of the Nanodropper and prevent future drops from coming out.
  2. Sometimes, this trapped fluid can create a siphon effect where multiple drops will drip out as soon as the bottle is uncapped or turned upside down.

Fortunately, there is an easy fix for both problems! Please follow the steps in this video every time you take a drop to avoid these issues in the future.

Environmental Questions

Can the Nanodropper adaptor be recycled?

Yes, the cap and base of the Nanodropper adaptor are made from #2 HDPE plastics, which can be recycled with other clean plastics. #2 plastics are highly recyclable and do not fall into the category of "mixed plastics" (#3-7), which often end up in landfills due to current recycling limitations.

How does Nanodropper help reduce healthcare waste?

Nanodropper addresses the environmental impact of pharmaceuticals by reducing waste associated with eyedrops. This innovative device minimizes not only medication wastage but also the frequency of pharmacy visits and the associated packaging and shipping impacts. By optimizing each drop, Nanodropper contributes to a more sustainable approach in eye care treatments, one drop at a time.
